Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Pastium (“Pastium,” “we,” “us”) handles information when you use the Pastium app for macOS and this website. By using Pastium you agree to the practices described here.

Pastium is a clipboard manager. To do its job, it stores the items you copy (text, links, colors, code, images, and files) together with metadata such as the source application, content type, and timestamp.

This clipboard history is stored locally on your Mac. It is not transmitted to us or to any third-party server. You control how much is kept and for how long in the app’s settings, and you can delete any item, or your entire history, at any time.

Text and QR codes in images. When you use the image editor’s text tool, or when Pastium reads a QR code in a copied image, recognition runs on your Mac using Apple’s Vision framework. The recognized text is stored locally with that image, like the rest of its data, so you can search for it. If it looks like a password or key, it is hidden like other sensitive content.

If you enable iCloud Sync, your clipboard history is synchronized across your own devices through your personal iCloud account, using Apple’s infrastructure. This data is tied to your Apple ID and is subject to Apple’s Privacy Policy. We do not have access to your iCloud data and cannot read its contents. Sync is off by default.

Pastium Pro includes four optional AI actions: Summarize, Rewrite, Suggest Label, and Detect Language. They are off by default. You turn them on in Settings → General → AI, and once on, they run only when you invoke them on a specific item. They never run automatically, in the background, or across your history.

How they work. These features use Apple’s Foundation Models framework, which gives apps access to the compact language model built into macOS as part of Apple Intelligence. Pastium does not bundle, download, or operate a model of its own, and does not use any third-party AI provider. The model is supplied by the operating system and the processing happens on your Mac’s own Apple Silicon.

What is transmitted: nothing. The item you select and the instruction Pastium sends with it are handed to the on-device model and stay on the device. No network request is made for these features, no data is routed to Apple’s Private Cloud Compute, and nothing is sent to us or to anyone else. The AI actions work with no internet connection at all.

What is logged: nothing. Pastium does not log or transmit the content you run AI on, the instructions it sends to the model, or the output the model returns. None of it is used to train or improve any model, ours or anyone else’s.

What is stored. Only the result you keep (a generated title, summary, tags, or label) is saved, and it is saved locally alongside the clipboard item it describes, exactly like the rest of that item’s data. You can regenerate it or delete it with the item at any time. If you have enabled iCloud Sync, it syncs with that item to your own devices as described in section 3.

Requirements. AI features need a Mac with Apple Silicon (M1 or newer) running macOS 26 or later, with Apple Intelligence enabled in System Settings. Your use of Apple Intelligence itself is also governed by Apple’s Privacy Policy. On Intel Macs or earlier versions of macOS the AI features are simply unavailable; every other part of Pastium works as normal.

Deciding what kind of content you copied (code, JSON, a link, a color, a file) happens on your device using rules and a small built-in machine-learning model (Google’s Magika). It doesn’t use Apple Intelligence unless you explicitly choose “Detect Language with AI” on an item.

The Pastium app does not collect, transmit, or store on our servers:

• the contents of your clipboard or history;
• your keystrokes, screen contents, or browsing activity;
• personal identifiers used for advertising or cross-app tracking.

This website may use privacy-respecting analytics to understand aggregate traffic (for example, page views and referring sources). Any such analytics are collected in aggregate and are not used to identify you personally. Standard server logs (such as IP address and browser type) may be processed by our hosting provider to operate and secure the site.

Pastium doesn’t ask for any special macOS permissions. It reads the clipboard to keep your history and writes an item back to the clipboard when you choose it; you paste with ⌘V. Files are only read or written when you pick them in an Open or Save panel (import and export).

Pastium can automatically ignore content marked as confidential or transient (such as passwords from a password manager), and you can block specific apps so that anything copied from them is never saved. Detected-sensitive items are hidden until you choose to reveal them. These protections run entirely on your device.

Pastium offers a 7-day free trial for new users, followed by a single monthly subscription (the price for your region is shown in the App Store before you subscribe) to keep all features. You can cancel anytime, and your existing clipboard history stays on your device.

Your subscription is processed through the Apple App Store. The transaction is handled by Apple, and we do not receive or store your payment details. Subscription processing is subject to Apple’s terms and privacy policy.

Because your clipboard history lives on your Mac (and optionally in your iCloud), you are in control of retention. Removing an item, clearing your history, or uninstalling the app deletes the corresponding local data. If iCloud Sync is enabled, deletions propagate to your other devices.

Pastium is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above. Significant changes will be communicated through the app or this website.
